Calcium is an essential mineral for the functioning of our body. Its main function is directly related to the bone structure (where it is naturally stored), namely, in the formation and development of bones and teeth. It is also fundamental in muscle contraction, blood clotting, transmission of nerve impulses, regulation of heartbeat and fluid balance within cells.
Magnesium, in addition to being an antioxidant, is crucial for bone health. Its deficiency contributes to the risk of osteoporosis, acting on the formation of calcium crystals and on parathyroid hormones (essential in maintaining the calcium balance in the blood). It is, therefore, very important in maintaining bone integrity.
Magnesium is also essential in physiological functions such as muscle contraction and relaxation.
Vitamin D3 is essential for the maintenance of calcium in bones. Studies have shown that supplementation with Vitamin D3 can lead not only to an increase in muscle strength, but in combination with calcium it prevents bone loss and consequently fractures and accelerates bone turnover.
A key component of shark cartilage is chondroitin sulfate. it has already been shown to have several effects, such as anti-inflammatory and also antioxidant properties. Therefore, shark cartilage may have some effect on pain relief in diseases such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and progressive systemic sclerosis.
Shark cartilage can also have an immunomodulating action and stimulate the immune system.
