Palmetto is a small palm tree that gives red berries that have been used by Native American Indians for a long time as a general tonic and in genito-urinary disorders.

More recently, clinical studies have shown that this plant has an anti-inflammatory action in cases of benign prostatic hypertrophy. These berries contain fatty acids and phytosterols that inhibit the action of dihydrotestosterone, responsible for the enlargement of the prostate. Thus, palmetto is used in situations of benign prostatic hypertrophy, as well as in improving associated symptoms (frequency, discomfort and pain when urinating).
