Due to its antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties, it is indicated for inflammation of the mouth and throat such as: tonsillitis, glossitis, pharyngitis, gingivitis, coryza and also as a preventive in the time of flu and herpetic lesions. In addition, there are the properties and mechanisms of action particular to each plant. In the case of terminalia, the luteolin contained therein may have anti-cancer properties. Gallic acid and the esters derived from it contain properties that fight bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus (even those resistant to methicillin). Other bacteria sensitive to the action of terminalia are Streptococcus mutans, Salmonella and Shigella. The terminalia also has antiviral properties, namely anti-cytomegalovirus, anti-herpes type 1 and anti-HIV.
