Prima Lab Prostate Self Test Prostate Prevention

Self-test for the determination of the Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) in the blood, in order to verify a possible alteration of the prostate.

PSA is a protein produced by the epithelial cells of the prostate gland. Its function is to fluidize the ejaculate and increase the mobility of the sperm. PSA also plays a role in dissolving cervical mucus, allowing semen to enter the uterus. Small amounts of PSA are normally found in the blood of men with a healthy prostate. Pathologies of the prostate lead to an increase in PSA levels in the blood. PSA levels also naturally increase with age, after prostate surgery or after specific diagnostic tests.

The test is indicated for: men without symptoms, over 45 years old, who want to check their PSA levels; men with urinary tract symptoms (difficulty urinating, pain, increased frequency). By checking PSA levels, it is possible to ascertain the health status of the prostate. In the case of cancer, early detection and prevention can save lives.
